The 130,000sf facility was conceived to address the social and athletic needs of a growing suburb, and features a city-owned/operated ice arena and field house, and a YMCA-managed aquatics area and fitness center.
The project received a Minnesota AIA Honor Award, the highest state award for architecture, and was featured in Architecture Minnesota.

A warm lofty circulation spine, highlighted by two dozen timber frames, organizes the facility and acts as its 'main street'.

Utilitarian precast concrete panels were transformed into a strong but budget-friendly design feature with the use of custom wave-patterened forms.

A bright red box, keyed to the YMCA brand, draws visitors to the front desk. Above the front desk is a workout studio with interior windows configured as abstract yoga poses.

The aquatics center features separate lap and play pools, as well as a spa, sauna, and steam room.

The 59,000sf field house can be divided into three full-size courts, and has spectator seating. The elevated walkway shown here allows YMCA members a birds-eye view of activities.

Glowing glass boxes and honey-colored circulation beyond highlight the building entries and provide contrast to the nearby heavy precast concrete planes.
